Holi and Jumma Namaz: A Day of Harmony in Sambhal
SAMBHAL: In a bid to ensure communal harmony, Hindus will celebrate Holi until 2.30 PM on March 14, while Muslims will offer Jumma namaz thereafter. This arrangement comes as a proactive measure by local authorities in this communally sensitive area of Uttar Pradesh.
A senior police official stated that seven companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed to maintain peace during this festive time. The decision follows remarks made by a local Circle Officer, who suggested that those uncomfortable with Holi colors should remain indoors. This statement garnered criticism from opposition parties, leading to a call for action against perceived bias.
Peace Initiatives in Place
Sambhal Superintendent of Police, Krishan Kumar, emphasized that peace committee meetings have been organized at the mohalla level. He assured that the police are closely monitoring social media to dispel any rumors that could disrupt the peace. Kumar encouraged residents to report any false information immediately.
District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya announced the division of the city into six zones and 29 sectors, with magistrates assigned to oversee security. He confirmed that there is no plan to cover mosques during Holi, reassuring that both communities aim to celebrate their respective festivals in harmony.
Promoting Unity
Circle Officer Anuj Chaudhary highlighted the importance of mutual respect, stating, “Just as Muslims eagerly await Eid, Hindus look forward to Holi.” He urged both communities to embrace the spirit of togetherness and avoid imposing festival celebrations on others.
