Exciting Leadership Change at Intel: Lip-Bu Tan to Take the Helm
In a significant move for the tech industry, Intel Corporation has announced that Lip-Bu Tan will become its new CEO, effective March 18, 2025. This announcement follows the retirement of longtime CEO Pat Gelsinger, who stepped down from both his role and the board of directors on December 1, 2024. Tan, a veteran in the semiconductor field, will be stepping in after the tenure of Interim Co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus.
Tan brings a wealth of experience to the role and will also rejoin Intel’s board, which he left in August 2024. The company has confirmed that Zinsner will continue as Executive Vice President and CFO, while Johnston Holthaus will maintain her leadership as CEO of Intel Products. Frank D. Yeary, who acted as Interim Executive Chair during the CEO search, will return to his position as the board’s independent chair once Tan assumes office.
“Lip-Bu is an exceptional leader with deep industry knowledge, strong relationships across the semiconductor ecosystem, and a proven track record of creating value for shareholders,” said Yeary, highlighting Tan’s reputation for innovation and team-building.
Yeary expressed confidence that Tan’s expertise will be pivotal in accelerating Intel’s turnaround, refining its foundry strategy, and capitalizing on growth opportunities. He also extended his gratitude to Zinsner and Johnston Holthaus for their steady guidance during this transitional phase, emphasizing their contributions to restoring stability at Intel.
