A 53-year-old man from Hyderabad recently fell victim to an elaborate scam that highlights the importance of vigilance in the digital age. Living in Old Safilguda and working for a private company, he received a WhatsApp message from an unidentified number. The message claimed to be from the PM Kisan scheme, a well-known government initiative aimed at providing financial support to farmers. Once he clicked the link, he was redirected to a fraudulent website. In a critical misstep, he also shared the one-time password (OTP) he received, resulting in scammers withdrawing a staggering Rs. 1.9 lakh from his account.
Upon discovering the unauthorized transactions, the victim quickly reported the incident to the Rachakonda Cybercrime Police, who are now investigating the case. Authorities have issued a warning to the public to exercise caution when receiving messages that promise financial assistance, especially from unknown sources.
