Last night, Digit hosted its prestigious Zero1 Awards, showcasing the best tech gadgets of 2024. Known for its rigorous focus on performance, the Digit Zero1 Awards has been recognizing top-performing products for over two decades. The event was graced by the presence of notable personalities, including Former Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Keynote Highlights from Rajeev Chandrasekhar
During his keynote speech, Chandrasekhar made a playful remark about Digit possibly inspiring Nvidia’s AI supercomputer ‘Digits’. “I don’t know whether you at Digit inspired Jensen Huang (CEO of Nvidia) or if it was the other way around, but at the Las Vegas CES 2025, he launched a desktop AI computer called Digits…. So, maybe you can take some credit for inspiring him and if you have congratulations for that as well,” he shared.
Chandrasekhar also highlighted India’s remarkable progress in the electronics and technology space. Reflecting on the past, he noted that just 10 or 11 years ago, electronics manufacturing in India largely meant domestic brands designing outside and manufacturing in China. “And for the first time, in the last 3-4 years, we are seeing not just great Indian brands and of course the global brands being manufactured here but also being designed to be manufactured here,” he added.
Trends Shaping the Future of Tech
Chandrasekhar outlined three key trends shaping the industry. First, the rapid digitisation of products across various sectors, driven by AI. “Even categories that are not intuitively electronic – farming, agriculture – are increasingly becoming digital,” he noted, foreseeing a rise in intelligent, ruggedized devices designed for emerging markets.
The second trend discussed was India’s expanding role in global electronics value chains, driven by the “China Plus One” strategy post COVID-19. “It is clear that India has this huge opportunity, and brands and companies in India will only continue to grow,” he affirmed.
