MUMBAI: Exciting news on the horizon! The Singapore government is in talks with the Tata Group for a groundbreaking partnership to develop semiconductors. This collaboration could revolutionize the industry and benefit both nations. Senior Singapore government officials, led by Minister K Shanmugam, recently met with Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran to discuss this innovative venture.
Despite its small size, Singapore boasts 25 foundries and a robust semiconductor value chain. India is keen on securing their supply, which is crucial for various equipment, from cars to telecom. The semiconductor industry in Singapore was also a key topic of discussion during the recent India-Singapore ministerial round table.
“Tatas can do business with anyone in the world, but Singapore could be a key partner for them. We are a serious player in the international semiconductor industry, with a reliable track record,” Shanmugam emphasized. The potential partnership is significant, given Tata Group’s scale, equivalent to the GDP of Singapore.
This exciting development was revealed during Shanmugam’s visit to Mumbai, where discussions also touched on skills development, digital initiatives, industrial parks, and renewable energy partnerships between Singapore and India.
“The 25 foundries in Singapore contribute to a comprehensive value chain. It takes strategic planning and collaboration to make things happen smoothly,” Shanmugham highlighted.
