Virat Kohli’s Form in the Spotlight Ahead of Fourth Test
As India and Australia gear up for the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the spotlight is firmly on Virat Kohli. The match, commencing on Boxing Day (December 2), promises to be a thrilling encounter, with the series currently tied at 1-1.
Kohli has had a rollercoaster of a tour thus far. He kicked off the series with a spectacular century in Perth, ending his long wait for a red-ball hundred. However, his performances in the following Tests in Adelaide and Brisbane have not lived up to expectations, raising questions about his current form.
In the five innings he has played on this tour, Kohli’s scores read 5, 100*, 7, 11, and 3, accumulating a total of 126 runs at an average of 31.50. Despite these fluctuations, Indian captain Rohit Sharma remains optimistic about Kohli’s ability to bounce back. “Modern-day greats will figure out their own way of carving out their path,” Rohit stated during a press conference in Melbourne, emphasizing his belief in Kohli’s resilience.
While Rohit himself has been grappling with form since the Test series at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand, he has also faced challenges adjusting to a new batting order after returning from paternity leave. Batting at No. 6, his scores of 10, 3, and 6 have not provided the stability the team needs.
As the Boxing Day Test approaches, Rohit has chosen to keep the batting order plans under wraps, stating, “Let’s not worry about who bats where. It is something that we need to figure out and not something that I would be discussing here.”
With both players under scrutiny, cricket fans are eager to see if Kohli can find his rhythm again, and whether Rohit can galvanize the team to victory.
