NEW DELHI: Tension escalated in central Nagpur on Monday when stones were thrown at police following the spread of rumors, resulting in injuries to four individuals, as reported by PTI. The police responded with tear gas and lathi charges to disperse crowds in Chitnis Park and Mahal, with violence later spilling into Kotwali and Ganeshpeth areas.

Officials indicated that the road belt from Chitnis Park to Shukrawari Talao was significantly affected, with reports of four-wheelers set ablaze and stones hurled at residences. The police are actively working to manage the crowd, which has swelled in size. Tensions flared further when members of Bajrang Dal conducted a demonstration near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Mahal, leading to confrontations with law enforcement.
In response, Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal announced the imposition of Section 144 in the area, urging citizens to refrain from unnecessary outings and to avoid taking the law into their own hands. “The situation is peaceful right now,” he stated, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining order amidst the unrest.
