Union Minister Kiren Rijiju: Minorities in India are the “Luckiest People”
In a recent address, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, emphasized the special status of minority communities in India. He stated that minorities in India are the “luckiest people” due to the exclusive schemes and welfare programs designed specifically for them.
Addressing False Narratives
During a regional review meeting and training workshop on the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), Rijiju condemned the false narratives suggesting that minorities are unsafe in India. He asserted, “There are people who are creating some of the false narratives that minorities are not safe in India, which is completely false.” This statement aims to counter ongoing claims of discrimination against minority communities.
Exclusive Schemes for Minorities
Rijiju highlighted that India offers unique schemes for minorities that are not available elsewhere in the world. He urged citizens to recognize the welfare initiatives of both state and central governments, expressing pride in being an Indian citizen. “We are lucky to be Indian citizens,” he remarked, encouraging appreciation of the government’s efforts.
Kerala: A Model for Minority Welfare
Citing Kerala as an example, Rijiju noted that the state has a significant population of Christians and Muslims, which naturally leads to more welfare schemes. He mentioned that the state’s Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, George Kurian, further strengthens the support for Kerala, resulting in high rates of loan disbursement under PMJVK.
Upcoming Initiatives
Looking ahead, Rijiju announced that the next Lok Samvardhan Parv would be held in Kerala in August, where artisans can showcase their products, supported by the central government. The Lok Samvardhan Parv is a testament to the inclusive development efforts of the Ministry, benefiting numerous individuals from minority communities.
