Two Smugglers Arrested Ahead of New Year Celebrations
Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the UP Special Task Force (STF) made a significant bust on December 29, arresting two smugglers in the early hours of the morning. The operation took place near Chatrasaal village on the Ayodhya-Lucknow highway, resulting in the seizure of 5.920 kilograms of charas, valued at ₹30 lakh, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Details of the Arrest
The two men, identified as Siddarth Kumar Srivastava from Motihari in West Champaran and Amit Kumar from Mufassil in East Champaran, were apprehended around 2:30 AM under the Satrikh police station limits. The STF officials confirmed their identities and detailed their smuggling operations.
Modus Operandi
The smugglers disclosed that they imported charas from Nepal in small quantities, intending to deliver bulk supplies to clients in Delhi and Gautambuddhanagar. To evade detection at the India-Nepal border, they repeatedly transported small amounts, discreetly dropping the drugs in jungle areas for later collection.
Interestingly, they mentioned a regular client, known only as Mishra from West Uttar Pradesh, who had requested around six kilograms of charas for New Year parties. The accused were en route to fulfill this order when they were caught.

The STF has garnered valuable intelligence regarding the drug nexus operating in Lucknow and other districts, promising further action against this illicit network.
Traffic Advisory for New Year’s Eve
In preparation for the festivities, Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory to manage the expected influx of revelers. Restrictions will be enforced from 8 PM on December 31 to ensure safety during the celebrations in Connaught Place. Authorities will impose strict penalties for offenses such as drunken driving and reckless behavior.
