Devastating Rains in Jammu: Five Lives Lost and Traffic Disruptions

Jammu has been grappling with incessant rains for three consecutive days, leading to tragic fatalities and significant disruptions in transportation. The heavy downpour has claimed the lives of five individuals, including a mother-son duo, and has severely impacted the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Tragic Incidents Amidst the Deluge

On early Friday, Shano Devi (50) and her son Raghu (25) tragically lost their lives when a boulder rolled down and struck their two-wheeler in the Moungari area of Udhampur district. This follows three deaths reported on Thursday, highlighting the perilous conditions caused by the relentless rainfall.

In a response to the flood crisis, authorities successfully rescued 12 workers stranded in the Ujh river in Rajbagh, Kathua, while police and SDRF teams assisted a truck driver trapped in the floods in Niki Tawi area.

Highway and Road Closures

The situation on the Srinagar highway remains dire, with no fresh traffic permitted due to snow accumulation and landslides. This has resulted in hundreds of vehicles being stranded since Thursday evening. Additionally, the Batote-Doda road and various other routes, including the Bhaderwah-Chamba road and Mughal road, are closed due to adverse weather conditions.

Helicopter services to Sanjichhat (Vaishno Devi shrine) were also affected, although pedestrian pilgrimages remain unaffected.
