Tragic Bengaluru Accident Claims Lives of CEO and Family
In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on December 4, Chandram Yegapagol, the CEO of a Bengaluru-based software company, along with five family members, lost their lives in a tragic accident involving a container truck on National Highway 48, near Nelamangala. The chilling details of this horrific event have sparked renewed discussions around road safety in India.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred around 11 AM when Yegapagol and his family were traveling to their hometown of Sangli in Maharashtra. As they followed a milk truck on the Bengaluru-Tumakuru stretch, a loaded container truck, carrying 26 tonnes of metal, lost control from the opposite direction. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck swerved across the median, colliding with both the milk truck and Yegapagol’s SUV.
Despite slowing down upon witnessing the impending crash, Yegapagol’s Volvo XC90 was tragically crushed under the weight of the container truck that fell directly onto the vehicle, resulting in the deaths of all passengers inside.
Investigation Underway
Authorities from the Nelamangala traffic police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the weight of the truck played a significant role in the tragedy. A senior police officer stated, “If the truck was empty or carrying anything of less weight, those in the SUV would have survived.”
The driver of the container truck, Arif, who sustained injuries in the crash, described the events leading up to the accident, explaining, “A car in front of me hit the brakes suddenly. When I hit the brakes, the truck kept going forward.”
Road Conditions and Safety Concerns
Investigators noted that the accident site is slightly inclined, posing risks for drivers. Alarmingly, this is not the first incident at this location, as a similar accident occurred in May 2023, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of road safety measures on this busy highway.
As we grieve this tragic loss, it is essential to prioritize road safety and advocate for measures that prevent such incidents in the future. For the latest updates on road safety and more, visit Looffers.com.
