Telangana Tunnel Collapse: Minister Krishna Rao Gives BIG Update on Eight Trapped Men
In a heart-wrenching update, Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao has announced that the prospects of survival for the eight individuals trapped in the SLBC tunnel after a partial collapse are “very remote.” Despite the grim outlook, rescue operations are ongoing, with every possible effort being made to reach the trapped men.
Rescue Operations Underway
Minister Krishna Rao highlighted that a specialized team of rat miners, known for their successful rescue of trapped construction workers in Uttarakhand earlier this year, has joined the ongoing efforts. The Minister emphasized that the rescue process is complex, taking an estimated three to four days due to the extensive muck and debris at the accident site.
Conditions at the Collapse Site
Rao provided a stark description of the situation, stating that nearly 25 feet of mud has accumulated in the tunnel, making rescue efforts even more challenging. He noted, “When we shouted their names, there was no response…so, there is no chance at all.” The trapped individuals have been identified as construction professionals from various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Jharkhand.
Technical Challenges
The collapse involved a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) that was significantly displaced by water, complicating the rescue further. Minister Rao raised concerns about the lack of oxygen for those trapped, despite ongoing efforts to pump air and remove water.
Continuous Efforts by Authorities
Despite relentless endeavors from the Indian Army, NDRF, and various agencies, no significant progress has been made in the rescue operations. The Minister underscored that restoring the conveyor belt in the tunnel is part of the strategy to clear the debris and continue the rescue efforts.
