Sunil Gavaskar Slams Double Standards in Pitch Critiques After 15 Wickets Fall at SCG

Sunil Gavaskar Critiques Double Standards in Pitch Complaints

New Delhi: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has voiced his strong criticism against overseas complaints regarding Indian pitches, particularly after a dramatic second day in the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), where 15 wickets fell. Speaking on ABC Grandstand Radio, Gavaskar emphasized the double standards in the discourse surrounding pitch conditions.
“If 15 wickets fell in one day in India, all hell would have broken loose,” Gavaskar remarked. He pointed out that while former Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath noted the excessive grass on the pitch, Indian players maintain their resolve without complaints when playing overseas.
Gavaskar stated, “When we go out and play cricket, we will toughen it out. If we are beaten, we are beaten. Overseas, it’s very difficult to beat home teams.” He further criticized the pitch, likening it to a grazing field for cows, and noted that the conditions did not favor a prolonged Test match unless rain intervened.
The cricketing legend did not hold back his disdain for former English and Australian players, reiterating that Indian players do not whine about foreign pitches. “We’re not moaners, we’re not whingers. You’ll never find us complaining, but 15 wickets in a day in India? There would be hell,” he added.
On the field, Rishabh Pant made headlines with his explosive batting, scoring the second-fastest half-century by an Indian in Test cricket. His performance propelled India to a 145-run lead, closing the day at 141/6, with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar at the crease.
As debates around pitch conditions continue, it remains clear that the spirit of cricket is alive and well, with players determined to battle it out in any conditions. For more updates on cricket and sports, visit Looffers.com, your go-to source for the latest in sports news and promotions.
