Controversy Erupts Over Namaz Video at IIMT University
MEERUT: In a shocking turn of events, a 22-year-old student from IIMT University was arrested for posting a video that allegedly showed students, including himself, offering namaz at an open ground on campus. This incident, which took place a few days ago, has ignited outrage among right-wing groups.
Details of the Incident
On March 13, approximately 50 students were seen praying on the university grounds. Following the emergence of the video, an FIR was lodged against the university authorities. The main accused, Khalid Pradhan, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy, has since been suspended along with three security guards.
University’s Response
Sunil Sharma, the media in-charge of the IIMT Group, stated that a committee was formed to investigate the matter. “No permission was taken from the administration for the namaz on campus. It seemed to be a spontaneous act,” he explained. Pradhan was invited to present his case but failed to attend, resulting in his suspension.
Legal Implications
The student is currently being questioned by authorities, while the university faces charges under section 299 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
