Steve Smith Falls Just Short of 10,000 Test Runs, Eyes Redemption in Sri Lanka

Steve Smith: A Near Miss on 10,000 Test Runs

In a thrilling Test series against India, Australian cricketer Steve Smith narrowly missed reaching the 10,000-run milestone, falling just one run short. Despite this personal setback, Smith remains optimistic about achieving this significant feat in the upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka.

A Cool Summer of Cricket

Reflecting on the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which Australia won 3-1, Smith described it as a “cool win.” He acknowledged the team’s resilience, especially after bouncing back from an earlier defeat in Perth. “Our bowlers were unbelievable,” he remarked, highlighting the exceptional performance of Scotty Boland.

The One-Run Heartbreak

Smith was left stranded at 9,999 runs during the fifth Test in Sydney after being dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. “It hurt a little bit at the time,” he admitted. “It would have been nice to have ticked that off in front of all my friends and family here at my home ground, but hopefully, I can knock it off first thing in Galle.”

Leadership Amidst Controversy

As the captain of the Australian team, Smith embraces his role with confidence, despite his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal of 2018. He will lead a 16-man squad to Sri Lanka starting January 29, stepping in for regular captain Pat Cummins. While some critics continue to question his leadership, Smith remains unfazed: “I’m pretty comfortable in my own skin. People are entitled to their opinion.”
