Mohamad highlighted Sharma’s impressive performance, scoring 76 runs, which was pivotal in leading India to glory.
“Congratulations to Team India for their stupendous performance in winning the Champions Trophy 2025,” she wrote on X. “Hats off to captain Rohit Sharma who led from the front with a brilliant 76, setting the tone for victory. Controversial Remarks and Subsequent Apology
However, Mohamad’s recent praise comes on the heels of controversy. Earlier, she faced backlash for her comments regarding Sharma’s fitness. In a now-deleted tweet, she described him as “fat” and labeled him a “mediocre captain.” This sparked outrage among cricket fans and supporters alike.
Defending her comments, Mohamad claimed her remarks were not intended as body-shaming, insisting she had the right to express her opinion in a democratic society. “It was a generic tweet about the fitness of a sportsperson. I always believed a sportsperson should be fit, and I felt he was a bit overweight,” she explained.
Congress Party’s Stand
The Congress party distanced itself from Mohamad’s earlier statements, urging her to delete her posts and exercise more caution in the future. Party leader Pawan Khera stated, “Dr. Shama Mohammed made certain remarks about a cricketing legend that do not reflect the party’s position.” He emphasized the party’s respect for sporting icons and their legacies.
