Shafali Verma: The Impact of Women’s Premier League on My Game
Delhi Capitals opener Shafali Verma has recently shared insights into how the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has significantly enhanced her cricket skills and batting approach. As a key player for the Capitals, Shafali has played a pivotal role in leading her team to the finals in both seasons of the league.
Learning and Growth Through WPL
“The players get to play a good number of matches in WPL. You get some very good opportunities to make small tweaks here and there in your game,” Shafali stated. She emphasized how the experience of interacting with international players has been invaluable for her development as a cricketer. “Playing with foreign players is a different learning experience. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the importance of staying calm and composed on and off the field.”
Focusing on Performance
As the Delhi Capitals gear up for their WPL 2025 campaign against the Mumbai Indians on February 15 in Vadodara, Shafali is determined to regain her position in the ODI squad. Following a challenging period where she was removed from the ODI team, she has shown resilience, scoring 414 runs in five matches at the Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy.
“The past few months have been tough for me. My father suffered a heart attack, and shortly after, I was dropped from the ODI squad. However, my family’s support has been unwavering,” she reflected. Shafali is now focusing on her training and performance, stating, “The only thing in my control is my preparation. If I train well and score runs, I know I can come back stronger.”
