Shubman Gill: A Rising Star in Indian Cricket

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar recently reminisced about the impressive debut of Shubman Gill during his first net session with the senior national team. Bangar highlighted how Gill’s performance against fast throwdown specialists left a lasting impression on coach Ravi Shastri.
“The first glimpse of Shubman Gill we had during his first net session for India was remarkable. In India, there is a tradition that to earn the approval of the coaching staff, players must excel against throwdown specialists who bowl at high speeds. Gill was smashing boundaries during that session, and Ravi Shastri was quick to remark, ‘Ek taiyaar player mil gaya humein (We have found a ready player).'” Such was the impact of Gill’s performance that it set the tone for his future in the team.

Gill’s Journey Since 2019

Shubman Gill made his India debut in 2019 following a stellar performance in the 2018 U19 World Cup. Since then, he has established himself as one of India’s key players across all formats. With 101 matches under his belt, Gill has accumulated an impressive 4,886 runs in 128 innings, including 12 centuries and 24 fifties.
His achievements have placed him among the elite group of Indian cricketers who have scored centuries in all international formats, showcasing his versatility and talent on the global stage.
