NEW DELHI: In a recent statement, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit clarified his relationship with Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi. When asked about their friendship, Dikshit acknowledged that they had worked together briefly but denied any close personal ties.
Dikshit revealed that he was introduced to Kejriwal by social activist Aruna Roy. According to him, Roy indicated that Kejriwal was interested in contributing to the NGO he was associated with. During their interaction, Kejriwal expressed a desire to understand the intricacies of politics, the challenges faced by Members of Parliament, and the issues affecting the public.
Insights from Their Interaction
During their discussions, Kejriwal advised Dikshit to meet constituents in informal settings, such as Pandara Park, instead of sticking to the conventional office setup. However, Dikshit dismissed this suggestion, perceiving Kejriwal as lacking seriousness in his approach.
Dikshit recalled a time during the 2009 elections when Nikhil Dey, associated with Aruna Roy, reached out to seek assistance for a new kind of political campaign—one that would operate without substantial financial backing. Dikshit agreed, assigning them one ward for campaigning. To his surprise, he later received a bill of forty lakhs for the campaign in that single ward, leading him to believe that Kejriwal only values numbers when it serves his interests.

As the political landscape heats up, Sandeep Dikshit is contesting the Delhi elections against Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency, while the BJP has fielded Parvesh Verma against both candidates. The elections are scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.
