Rishabh Pant Appointed Captain of Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2025
In an exciting development for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Rishabh Pant has been officially named the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). This announcement was made by the team’s principal owner, Sanjiv Goenka. Pant, who emerged as the most expensive player in last year’s mega auction, was acquired by LSG for a staggering Rs 27 crore.
Pant’s Leadership Journey
Rishabh Pant steps into the captaincy role as the fourth captain in LSG’s history, following KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya. After a promising start, including playoff appearances in both 2022 and 2023, LSG faced a disappointing seventh-place finish in the 2024 season. This leadership change aims to reinvigorate the team and steer them back to winning ways.
Pant’s previous experience as the captain of Delhi Capitals from 2021 to 2024 (with a hiatus in 2023 due to injury) is expected to be invaluable. His departure from DC was primarily due to his leadership role, which has now transitioned to LSG.
Strong Support Staff and Team Composition
At LSG, Pant will collaborate with renowned head coach Justin Langer and team mentor Zaheer Khan. The team’s batting lineup looks formidable, featuring stars like Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, and Mitchell Marsh, alongside promising talents such as Ayush Badoni and Aryan Juyal.
The bowling attack will be bolstered by Indian seamers Akash Deep and Avesh Khan, along with retained players like Ravi Bishnoi and Mohsin Khan. This combination of experience and youth is poised to make LSG a competitive force in IPL 2025.
