Rishabh Pant Set to Return for Delhi in Ranji Trophy
Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for Delhi’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, kicking off on January 23 in Rajkot. His return is highly anticipated, as Pant last played in the Ranji Trophy during the 2017-2018 season. According to Ashok Sharma, secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Pant will join the squad directly in Rajkot.
Virat Kohli’s Participation Uncertain
The participation of star player Virat Kohli remains uncertain, as he has not yet confirmed his availability. Kohli last played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy back in 2012. Both players have been included in Delhi’s list of probables for the remaining season, with the final squad depending on their availability.
Calls for Red-Ball Cricket
Former India legends Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri have suggested that struggling players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should participate in red-ball cricket to regain their form, especially following the team’s recent series loss in Australia. While Rohit has been training with the Mumbai team, his availability for the upcoming matches is still unclear.
Delhi’s Current Standing
Delhi currently sits in fourth place in Group D with 14 points from five games. In addition to Pant and Kohli, Harshit Rana has been named in the T20 squad and will not be available for the Ranji Trophy. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to represent their respective state teams in the upcoming matches.
