Rajasthan Medical Fraternity Outraged Over VC Appointment
JAIPUR: The medical community in Rajasthan is in an uproar following the appointment of Pramod Yeole as the Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS). Yeole, who holds a doctoral degree in pharmaceutical sciences, has drawn criticism from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) for being unsuitable for the role, given the university’s pivotal responsibility in maintaining high standards in medical education and enhancing public health outcomes.
Concerns Raised by IMA
The IMA state chapter has formally expressed its discontent in a letter to Governor Haribhau Bagde. The organization argues that Yeole’s academic background does not align with the core objectives of RUHS, which oversees 30 affiliated medical colleges across Rajasthan. The medical fraternity believes that appointing someone without an MBBS degree undermines the integrity of medical education in the state.
Potential Agitation on the Horizon
The situation has escalated to a point where the medical community is threatening a statewide agitation if the decision is not rescinded. The apprehension stems from the belief that such appointments could significantly impact the quality of medical training and, consequently, public health in Rajasthan.
Yeole’s Background
Before this appointment, Pramod Yeole served as the Vice Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad and was the Pro Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Despite his experience in academia, the medical community remains unconvinced about his suitability for RUHS.
