Rahul Gandhi Critiques ‘Make in India’ Initiative
NEW DELHI: In a recent statement, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not mentioning the ‘Make in India’ initiative during his Lok Sabha speech, labeling it a “failure.” He pointed out that manufacturing’s contribution to GDP has significantly declined from 15.3% in 2014 to 12.6%, marking the lowest level in 60 years.
Gandhi emphasized the urgent need for job creation, stating, “India’s youth desperately need jobs. No government in recent times, whether UPA or NDA, has been able to meet this national challenge at scale.” He called for a comprehensive vision to revive the manufacturing sector and enhance its global competitiveness.
BJP Responds Strongly
The BJP quickly responded to Gandhi’s allegations. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT department, countered with data, asserting that manufacturing is on the rise, jobs are being created, and India is emerging as a global production powerhouse. He remarked, “Rahul may have finally admitted UPA’s failures, but India has already moved on from that lost decade.”
Malviya further stated that from 2014 to 2024, approximately 17.9 crore jobs were created, compared to just 2.9 crore from 2004 to 2014. He criticized the Congress-led UPA for its legacy of policy paralysis and cronyism, which he claimed stifled India’s manufacturing potential.
