NEW DELHI: In a significant development, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has been detained by the Punjab Police on Wednesday in Zirakpur, according to reports from news agency ANI. This incident comes during a crucial phase of negotiations between protesting farmers and a central delegation in Chandigarh.
Positive Discussions Amidst Tension
Union ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Pralhad Joshi, and Piyush Goyal recently met with farmer representatives, providing a glimmer of hope as discussions reportedly took place in a “very positive atmosphere.” Minister Chouhan emphasized the constructive nature of the talks, stating, “The meeting took place in a very positive atmosphere, and the discussions were very positive. The next date for the meeting is May 4.”
Farmers’ Delegation and Future Meetings
Punjab minister Harpal Singh Cheema echoed similar sentiments, confirming that the discussions would continue with the agriculture ministry’s officials engaging all stakeholders who are advocating for a legal guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Prior to the talks, Sarwan Singh Pandher highlighted that a 28-member delegation from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha would participate in the discussions, signifying the organized approach of the farmers’ groups in addressing their concerns.
