Punjab and Haryana High Court Grants Relief to IIM-Rohtak Director Dheeraj Sharma
CHANDIGARH: In a significant turn of events, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has provided a reprieve to Dheeraj Sharma, the director of IIM-Rohtak. On Thursday, the court put a hold on the decisions made by the board of governors regarding alleged financial irregularities at the institute.
Challenging the Central Government’s Inquiry
Sharma had previously contested a central government order issued on March 5, which initiated an inquiry into the financial matters of IIM-Rohtak. Following this, another order dated March 13 directed the board to either suspend him or place him on long leave while the inquiry was underway.
Court Proceedings and Future Hearings
As Assistant Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain was engaged in another case, the court acknowledged the urgency of the matter. With a board meeting scheduled for 1:30 PM on the same day, the High Court allowed the meeting to proceed but mandated that any decisions made be postponed until the next hearing, set for April 2.
This ruling not only provides a temporary relief for Dheeraj Sharma but also highlights the importance of due process in administrative matters within educational institutions.
