Celebrating Triumph: Indian Athletes Shine at the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games
Special Olympics Bharat recently hosted a grand reception to welcome back Indian athletes who showcased their extraordinary talents at the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy. With immense pride, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged their remarkable achievements, as the team returned home with an outstanding haul of 33 medals, including 8 gold, 18 silver, and 7 bronze.
A Momentous Return
The Indian delegation, comprising 30 athletes and 19 support personnel, made the nation proud by excelling in various disciplines such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, floorball, snowshoeing, short track speed skating, and cross-country skiing. The Prime Minister shared his joy on social media, stating, “I am immensely proud of our athletes who have brought glory to the nation at the Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Turin, Italy!”
Recognizing Excellence
In recognition of their stellar performances, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced an increase in cash prizes for the medal winners. Gold medallists will receive Rs. 20 lakhs, silver medallists Rs. 14 lakhs, and bronze medallists Rs. 8 lakhs. This appreciation not only rewards their hard work but also encourages future participation in sports.
A National Pride
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Youth Affairs and Sports, also expressed his admiration, sharing the Prime Minister’s post and celebrating the athletes as “Param-Mitra.” This acknowledgment from the government reflects a growing recognition of the importance of inclusivity in sports and the extraordinary efforts of these athletes.
