No Evidence Against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah in MUDA Case: Lokayukta Police Report
In a significant development, the Lokayukta Police announced that there is no evidence against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his wife BM Parvathi, and others involved in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case. This statement follows the submission of a final report to the Lokayukta headquarters in Bengaluru after an extensive 138-day investigation.
Background of the Investigation
The investigation commenced in September 2024 after a directive from a special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru. Led by Mysuru Lokayukta superintendent of police TJ Udesh, the inquiry aimed to scrutinize site allotments linked to CM Siddaramaiah and his family.
Extensive Inquiry Process
During this investigation, the Lokayukta Police questioned over 100 individuals, including bureaucrats, retired officials, and Muda personnel. Notable figures, such as Siddaramaiah and his relatives, provided video-recorded statements that were meticulously documented in the report. The team reviewed more than 3,000 pages of documents concerning the disputed property and allotment processes.
Legal Implications
The special court had initially directed an FIR against Siddaramaiah and three others based on a petition by social activist Snehamayi Krishna, with the Karnataka High Court upholding the governor’s decision to investigate. The inquiry covered various alleged violations, including those under the IPC, Prevention of Corruption Act, Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, and Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act.
