New Pitch Prepared for India vs England ODI Amid Past Controversies at Nagpur Stadium

Narendra Modi Stadium: A Fresh Start Ahead of India vs England ODI

NAGPUR: The Narendra Modi Stadium in Nagpur, known for its pitch-related controversies, is set to host the first ODI between India and England. After past criticisms, including a ‘poor’ rating from the ICC in 2015 and discontent from Australian players during a Test match in 2023, the venue has prepared a new hard surface for the upcoming clash.

A Promising Wicket

According to sources from the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA), the pitch is currently looking favorable for high-scoring games. “It seems a 300+ wicket right now, with some help to the spinners in the second half. It looks grassy now, but it might be shaved off,” noted a VCA representative.

Insights from Shubman Gill

Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill shared his thoughts on the pitch during a media interaction. “You can never really predict how the wicket is going to play. No instructions have been given by the Indian camp regarding the pitch. I haven’t seen grass being shaved off the pitch. The wicket dries here soon, so they might have kept some grass so that the surface retains moisture,” he remarked.

Recent History

Only one Ranji Trophy match was played on this pitch between Vidarbha and Gujarat in November 2024, where Vidarbha posted over 500 runs, resulting in a draw. With a fresh surface and unpredictable conditions, cricket fans are eagerly awaiting how the match will unfold.
