NCW Launches Pre-Marital Counselling Centres to Foster Happy Marriages
NEW DELHI: In a significant move to address the rising concerns of marital disputes, the National Commission for Women (NCW) is set to launch 21 pre-marital counselling centres across nine states, including Delhi, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. These centres aim to provide essential information and counselling on the social, psychological, and behavioural aspects of marriage.
Empowering Couples with Guidance
Located in government spaces and supervised by district and municipal authorities, these centres will be strategically placed near marriage registration offices. “The aim is to provide guidance to young generations on how to have a happy marriage,” stated NCW chief Vijaya Rahatkar. Following extensive consultations with over 100 experts, a comprehensive pre-marital communication programme has been developed to address key topics relevant to aspiring couples.
Where Will the Centres Be Located?
The centres will be launched in several key locations: Udaipur and Bikaner in Rajasthan, Bhopal, Jhabua and Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, as well as one centre each in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Khurda (Odisha). Additionally, centres will open in Nashik, Latur, and Mumbai (Maharashtra), Ahmedabad and Botad (Gujarat), and Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala). Each centre will span 150-200 square feet and will be staffed by trained counsellors.
Support from Local Authorities
NCW chief Vijaya Rahatkar has urged district collectors to support this initiative by promoting it through hoardings, banners, and brochures in universities, offices, and marriage registration venues. This proactive approach aims to reach young couples and equip them with the necessary tools for a successful marriage.
