The National Anti-Doping Agency Expands Testing Pool for 2025
The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has taken significant steps in 2025 by expanding its anti-doping programme to include a broader range of elite cricketers. This initiative aims to uphold the integrity of the sport and ensure that athletes compete clean. Notable additions to the ‘Registered Testing Pool’ (RTP) include men’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, Test vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, ODI team vice-captain Shubman Gill, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.
New Additions to the Testing Pool
This year, a total of 14 male and female cricketers will be part of the RTP, which now features prominent players like Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and young talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Arshdeep Singh. Women cricketers like opener Shafali Verma, all-rounder Deepti Sharma, and medium pacer Renuka Singh Thakur have also been included.
Ensuring Compliance Through Testing
NADA’s dope control officers (DCOs) will actively collect urine samples from players in the RTP during the upcoming white-ball series against England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been notified of these procedures to guarantee compliance with anti-doping regulations.
Understanding the RTP Requirements
Athletes in the RTP must provide detailed whereabouts information, which allows NADA to locate them for out-of-competition sample collection. This information includes residential addresses, training schedules, and a designated 60-minute time slot each day for potential testing. Accumulating three missed tests or filing failures in a year can lead to an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
With the inclusion of these cricketers, the total number of athletes in NADA’s RTP has risen to 227, encompassing participants from various sports disciplines, including Olympic athletes.
