Matt Prior Slams England’s Bowling in Heavy ODI Defeat to India

Matt Prior Critiques England’s Defeat Against India: A Wake-Up Call

Former England wicketkeeper-batter Matt Prior has expressed his disappointment with England’s performance in the second ODI against India. After a hefty defeat, where India chased down a target of 305 runs with four wickets in hand, Prior highlights critical issues that need addressing as England faces a challenging series.

Bowling Woes: Lack of Pressure on Indian Batsmen

Speaking to TNT Sports, Prior emphasized the lack of pressure that England’s bowling attack exerted on the Indian side. “I think the worry is how easily India chased 305 down. They lost a few wickets towards the end, but that was more about boredom than pressure,” he remarked.
Prior was particularly critical of England’s bowling strategy, suggesting that raw pace alone is not sufficient against the seasoned Indian batsmen. “Wood is bowling quick, but that isn’t enough on these wickets. You have to be accurate and put batters under real pressure. England had no answer for Rohit,” he added.

Rohit Sharma: A Class Act

Prior didn’t hold back in his praise for Indian captain Rohit Sharma, whose commanding 119-run innings set the stage for India’s successful chase. “Everything England tried, Rohit counterpunched. He is a class act and played a belligerent and classy innings,” he noted.

Positives Amid Disjointed Performance

While acknowledging some positives, such as the opening partnership of Phil Salt and Ben Duckett and Joe Root’s return to form, Prior insisted that the team looked out of sync overall. “England got over 300, and the opening partnership is working, but they don’t look in great form. Sloppy fielding also indicated their disarray,” he pointed out.
With England trailing 0-2 in the series, they must deliver a much-improved performance in the final ODI to salvage some pride.
