Manish Sisodia’s Seat Switch Backfires as BJP’s Marwah Claims Jangpura Victory

Delhi Elections 2025: AAP’s Sisodia Ousted in Unexpected Turn

A slim victory margin against BJP’s Ravinder Negi in 2020 led Manish Sisodia, AAP’s second-in-command, to switch his constituency from Patparganj to Jangpura in the hopes of securing a stronger foothold. However, this strategic move did not yield the anticipated results, as voters opted for BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah instead.
Typically, Patparganj would have been Sisodia’s preferred choice, but mounting anti-incumbency sentiments, ongoing legal troubles, and the opposition’s robust stance on corruption may have influenced his decision to switch seats. AAP had hoped that the Dalit and Muslim communities in Jangpura would provide the necessary support.
Marwah’s success can be attributed to several factors, including his promises to enhance infrastructure, which resonated with the middle class disillusioned by AAP’s unfulfilled pledges. His extensive grassroots outreach and connection with Jangpura’s residents bolstered his appeal. “I know this constituency inside out,” he asserted during his campaign.
Historically, Jangpura has seen a fluctuating political landscape. AAP’s Maninder Dhir captured the seat from Congress in 2013. Following Dhir’s switch to BJP in 2015, AAP’s Praveen Kumar won in both 2015 and 2020. However, Sisodia’s recent switch ultimately fell short of expectations.
