Mamata Banerjee’s Bold Predictions for West Bengal Politics
NEW DELHI: In a recent address to party workers at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her confidence that the political landscape in her state will remain unaffected by the outcomes of the Maharashtra and Delhi elections. She boldly stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be “finished” by 2027-2029.
Banerjee emphasized that despite the setbacks faced by non-BJP parties in other states, her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), is prepared to confront the BJP head-on in the upcoming elections. “We will win over 215 seats in the 2026 assembly polls,” she declared, setting a clear target as the TMC aims to further diminish BJP’s presence in the region.
Challenging the BJP’s Claims
Reflecting on previous elections, Banerjee pointed out that the BJP’s claims of winning 200 seats in 2021 and 400 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were met with failure. She expressed her conviction that TMC will secure a two-thirds majority in the upcoming polls and is determined that BJP candidates should lose their deposits.
BJP’s Response
In response, BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya remarked that Banerjee’s statements are merely an attempt to bolster the morale of her party workers, as she senses potential defeat in the upcoming assembly election. He highlighted TMC’s alleged history of electoral malpractices, asserting that the unity of Hindus in Bengal has made Banerjee anxious.
The Road Ahead for Bengal
As the political narrative unfolds, BJP leaders are rallying support, with Suvendu Adhikari calling for a decisive move in Bengal, echoing sentiments from recent victories in Delhi. The stage is set for a contentious electoral battle in 2026, making it imperative for voters to stay informed and engaged.
