Major Assault in Chhattisgarh: 30 Maoists Killed in Simultaneous Encounters

Major Success Against Maoists in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: In a significant development, at least 30 Maoists were killed in two encounters in the Bijapur and Kanker districts of Bastar division on Thursday. Tragically, one security personnel also lost his life during the gunfight.

Details of the Encounters

Bastar range IG P Sundarraj reported that the more substantial encounter occurred in Bijapur’s Gangaloor, an area notorious for insurgency. This operation marks the first major action in Gangaloor since the March 3 surrender of Maoist commander Dinesh Modiyam. In this encounter, 26 of Modiyam’s former associates were killed.

In just 80 days, security forces in Chhattisgarh have neutralized 113 Maoists, with 91 of those in Bijapur alone. Last year, a total of 287 Maoists were eliminated in the Bastar division.

Government’s Stance

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the bravery of the forces, stating, “Our soldiers have achieved another major success in the direction of ‘Naxal-Free India Campaign’.” The government is committed to a ruthless approach against Maoists, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for those refusing to surrender.

Ongoing Operations

Sundarraj noted that a joint team of Bijapur and Sukma District Reserve Guards (DRG), CoBRA commandos, and CRPF personnel initiated operations based on credible intelligence. The first exchange of fire began around 7 AM, lasting until after noon, resulting in 26 dead Maoists found on the battleground. In Kanker, four bodies were discovered in the forests, along with a significant cache of explosives and weapons.

The operation continues, focusing on Maoists in South Bastar, including Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada. As the fight against Naxalism persists, the sacrifices made by security forces will not be forgotten.
