Maharashtra Tragedy: Truck Accident Claims Lives of Two Children and One Adult in Pune
Maharashtra news has been shaken by a tragic accident that occurred in Pune’s Wagholi Chowk area, where three individuals – including two innocent children – lost their lives after a truck ran over them while they were sleeping on a footpath. The incident took place in the early hours of Monday, at approximately 12:30 AM, as several people sought refuge on the streets.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the driver of the truck, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, veered off course and crashed onto the footpath. The victims have been identified as Vaibhavi Pawar (1), Vaibhav Pawar (2), and Vishal Pawar (22). Tragically, the accident left six others injured, who were subsequently admitted to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment.
Police Response
Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 4, confirmed that the driver has been arrested under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act for further investigation. “We are checking if he was under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation is ongoing,” stated a senior police official. It was noted that most of the victims were laborers who had chosen the footpath as their temporary resting place.
Context of Recent Accidents
This unfortunate incident is part of a troubling trend in the region, as just days ago, a speeding bus in Mumbai led to the deaths of nine individuals and left around 40 injured. As traffic-related tragedies continue to claim lives, the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations becomes increasingly crucial.
