CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The district health authorities have confirmed the death of a 14-year-old boy, Yash Nitin Hiwrale, due to Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), bringing the nationwide toll from this rare neurological disease to 26. Yash was admitted to a private hospital on January 20 and sadly passed away on March 17.
Health Authorities Criticize Hospital for Non-Reporting
Dr. Paras Mandlecha, the health officer, expressed concerns regarding the hospital’s failure to report this GBS case. In light of this incident, health officials have mandated that all private hospitals and practitioners must report any suspected or confirmed GBS cases promptly. A health team has since visited the hospital to collect Yash’s medical records for further investigation.
Current GBS Situation in Maharashtra
This year alone, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has reported 28 GBS cases, with 25 individuals successfully recovering. The state had recorded its last GBS death on March 3, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by this condition.
