Life Imprisonment for Honour Killing in Meerut
In a shocking case that highlights the dark side of honour killings in India, an additional district court in Meerut has sentenced a man and his accomplice to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a 22-year-old man. The accused, Deepak Tyagi, was involved in an illicit relationship with the married daughter of Fameed Ahmeed, leading to a premeditated act of violence.
Details of the Crime
According to former SSP Meerut, Rohit Singh Sajwan, the incident occurred on September 26, 2022. Fameed, upon discovering the affair, conspired with his friend, Mohd Asif, to murder Tyagi. They invited Tyagi for drinks, and after he became inebriated, they took him to a forest where they horrifically beheaded him with a sword. His dismembered body was discovered two days later, with his head found five kilometers away from the crime scene. Both accused were arrested on October 3, 2022.
Justice Served
SSP Meerut Dr. Vipin Tada stated that the additional district judge, Nusrat Khan, found both men guilty under IPC sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
