Chairman of Khyati Hospital Arrested in Angioplasty Scam
AHMEDABAD: In a significant breakthrough in the angioplasty scam linked to illegal claims under the PMJAY scheme, the chairman of Khyati Hospital, Kartik Patel, was arrested upon his arrival at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport from Dubai on Friday.
Details of the Arrest
With Patel’s arrest, authorities have apprehended all nine individuals connected to four cases filed after the tragic deaths of two patients who underwent unnecessary angioplasty procedures at the hospital in November. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bharat Patel stated, “A lookout circular had been issued. When his passport was scanned, authorities alerted us. A team reached the airport and took him into custody. He was accompanied by his wife.”
Charges Against Key Individuals
Kartik Patel, along with cardiologist Prashant Vazirani, medical director Sanjay Patolia, and hospital CEO Chirag Rajput, has been named in three FIRs. They face serious charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. Patel has claimed he was in New Zealand during the time of the patients’ deaths, according to the ACP.
