Khushdil Shah Fined for Level 2 Breach in T20I Against New Zealand
Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah has been fined 50% of his match fee following a Level 2 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch. The incident occurred in the 8th over when Khushdil collided with New Zealand bowler Zakary Foulkes, leading to an ICC charge under Article 2.12 for improper physical contact.
Match referee Jeff Crowe and officials deemed the collision as “forceful physical contact that was both careless and preventable.” Khushdil accepted the charge and the sanction, which included three demerit points added to his disciplinary record. This marks his first offense in the past 24 months; however, accumulating four demerit points could lead to suspension points and potential match bans.
Unfortunately for Pakistan, the day was not just marked by disciplinary issues. The team struggled significantly at the crease, managing to post a mere 91 runs in their innings. Khushdil’s top score of 32 was overshadowed by the overall batting collapse, as only Salman Ali Agha (18) and Jahandad Khan (17) reached double figures.
New Zealand’s bowlers showcased their dominance, with Jacob Duffy claiming 4 wickets for just 14 runs and Kyle Jamieson taking 3 for 8. Chasing down the modest target, the Black Caps cruised to victory, with Tim Seifert leading the way with 44 runs off 29 balls. Finn Allen (29*) and Tim Robinson (18*) helped secure a nine-wicket win, putting New Zealand 1-0 up in the five-match series.
