In a dramatic political exchange, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has commended the Election Commission (EC) for its swift actions, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retaliated with strong accusations against the Delhi government.
Kejriwal’s Praise for the Election Commission
Following a meeting with the Election Commission, Kejriwal expressed his gratitude for the assurances provided. He stated, “The Election Commission has ordered to shift Awadh Ojha’s vote. He will now be able to cast his vote and file his nomination.” Kejriwal emphasized that the EC had assured AAP that no irregularities, including bribery through the distribution of cash and goods, would take place during the election process. “We are very grateful to the Election Commission for their response,” he added.
BJP’s Counterattack: ‘Above the Constitution?’
In response, the BJP launched a fierce attack on Kejriwal, questioning his respect for constitutional norms. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi asked, “Does Kejriwal consider himself above the Constitution?” He criticized the Delhi government for its failure to table the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the assembly, alleging that this reflected an “anarchist character.” The reports, particularly one concerning the now-abandoned excise policy, indicated a loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the exchequer.

Trivedi further derided Kejriwal for what he described as a “super CM” approach, contrasting it with his previous criticisms of the Congress during the UPA era. In a separate discussion, he defended the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar, attributing it to “global dollar issues” while highlighting India’s efforts in de-dollarization through trade in rupees with countries like Russia.
