Kejriwal’s Big Claim: BJP MPs Targeted for Creating Fake Voters in New Delhi
NEW DELHI: In a significant allegation, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of instructing its seven MPs in Delhi to create fake voters for the New Delhi assembly constituency. Kejriwal took to social media to express his concerns, stating, “According to sources, the Gaali Galooj Party [BJP] has given targets to its seven MPs to get fake voters made in the New Delhi Legislative Assembly in the next few days. Let’s see how many applications for enrolling new voters come in the next few days. Everyone should keep an eye on this.”
In addition, Kejriwal mentioned that AAP leader Atishi has sought a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner to address these serious allegations. He expressed hope that they would receive an appointment soon.
Context of the Allegations
The political tension has been exacerbated following the Election Commission’s release of Delhi’s updated electoral roll, which prompted AAP to raise alarms about a significant number of voter removals in the New Delhi constituency. Kejriwal described this as fraudulent activity. On Monday, Chief Minister Atishi sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, requesting additional verification processes for the voter removals, noting that the election regulations necessitate personal verification for each removal request exceeding 2 percent.
Political Landscape
In the New Delhi assembly elections, Kejriwal is facing competition from BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit. Kejriwal has a strong electoral record, having won three consecutive elections from this constituency in 2013, 2015, and 2020.
BJP’s Response
In response to these allegations, the Delhi BJP has countered that AAP’s efforts to include ineligible voters have been unsuccessful, insisting that their claims are unfounded.
