Srinagar: The Kashmiri Pandit Sagarash Samiti (KPSS) recently raised concerns regarding the ongoing narrative that an increase in tourist footfall in the Kashmir Valley signifies peace. The organization emphasized the need for a “truth and justice commission” to address the injustices faced by Kashmiri Pandits and to facilitate their rehabilitation.
Questioning the Peace Narrative
KPSS president Sanjay Tickoo questioned, “What peace are they talking about? Does the influx of tourists justify ignoring the cries of Kashmiri Pandits, who have been forced into exile for decades?” He pointed out that the reality of shuttered temples and abandoned homes cannot be overlooked in the face of rising tourism.
Call for Justice
Tickoo underscored that justice involves acknowledging the truth, stating, “Without this, any talk of reconciliation and rehabilitation remains a hollow, meaningless exercise.” He commended the state assembly for discussing the painful issue of Kashmiri Pandit rehabilitation, contrasting it with political leaders who exploit the community’s suffering for votes.

He criticized the habit of labeling their struggle as “anti-national,” noting that this tactic diverts attention from the real issues faced by the community. “This blatant attempt is not only irresponsible but also an insult to the thousands who suffered,” Tickoo remarked.
