Political Storm in Karnataka Assembly Over ‘Honeytrap’ Case
NEW DELHI: A massive uproar unfolded in the Karnataka assembly as opposition parties targeted Chief Minister Siddharamaiah over serious allegations linked to a honeytrap scandal. The controversy involves a senior minister and 48 others, prompting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs to storm the well of the assembly, chanting “down, down” during Siddharamaiah’s address.
Call for Judicial Inquiry
The BJP leaders are demanding a judicial inquiry into the matter, with the Leader of Opposition, R. Ashoka, asserting that it represents a conspiracy aimed at undermining legislators dedicated to public service. “It is not the issue of one party; it’s a significant conspiracy against legislators who are working for the people,” he stated.
In response, CM Siddharamaiah emphasized that no one would be shielded in the honeytrap case. He confirmed that G. Parameshwara had addressed the allegations made by KN Rajanna and initiated an inquiry. “According to the law, the guilty should be punished,” Siddharamaiah stated, stressing the government’s commitment to transparency and justice.
High-Level Probe Announced
Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced the initiation of a high-level probe into the alleged honey trap attempt involving Rajendra Rajanna, MLC, and son of Karnataka Minister KN Rajanna. “If we must save the dignity of our members, we must put a brake on such incidents,” Parameshwara affirmed.
The issue gained momentum when cooperation minister KN Rajanna himself admitted to being a victim of a honey trap, intensifying the debate within the House. Senior BJP member Basanagouda Patil Yatnal suggested that a senior Congress politician was behind the scandal, aiming to discredit political rivals.
