Karnataka Actress Ranya Rao Arrested for Gold Smuggling
BENGALURU: In a shocking turn of events, Ranya Rao, a Kannada actress and daughter of the Director General of Police (Police Housing Corporation), Ramachandra Rao, was apprehended by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials at Kempegowda International Airport on Monday night. The actress was found with an astonishing 14 kg of gold bars concealed within a belt strapped to her body, along with an additional 800 grams of gold ornaments.
Upon her arrival from Dubai, Ranya was immediately taken into custody and subsequently presented before a judge, who remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody. Investigators believe she is part of a larger gold smuggling racket that has been operating through Bengaluru airport for several months.

Her father, DGP K Ramachandra Rao, expressed shock and disappointment at the revelation. “We are completely unaware of her or her husband’s business dealings. This has come as a huge shock and disappointment,” he stated, affirming that if there is any violation, the law will take its course.
