Serving Humanity: ISKCON’s Incredible Food Distribution at Maha Kumbh
The Maha Kumbh Mela: A Spiritual Gathering
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), in collaboration with the Adani Group, is on a mission to provide nutritious meals to nearly one lakh people daily at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. This spiritual event draws millions of devotees, and ISKCON is ensuring that no one goes hungry.
Massive Kitchen Operations
At their camp on Harshvardhan Marg, ISKCON’s kitchen prepares food for an astonishing 30,000 to 35,000 people in a single session. With three sessions daily, over one lakh people are served wholesome food, as confirmed by Madhukant Das, ISKCON’s Director (CSR).
Nutritious and Delicious Meals
The meals, which include dal, chole or rajma, vegetables, roti, rice, and sweets like halwa or boondi laddu, are not only balanced but also prepared on traditional clay stoves using wood and cow dung cakes, enhancing the flavor. This dedication to quality is what makes ISKCON’s food truly special.
Widespread Distribution
ISKCON has established 40 distribution centers across Prayagraj, including bus stands and railway stations, ensuring that meals reach devotees and even the 15,000 workers engaged in cleaning the fairgrounds. With three kitchens set up at strategic locations, food prasad is efficiently prepared and distributed.
Eco-Friendly Initiatives
In a commendable effort to maintain environmental sustainability, ISKCON has opted for a plastic-free operation throughout the 45-day fair. With the support of 100 vehicles provided by the Adani Group and the efforts of 3,000 volunteers, the food distribution has increased by 8-10 times.
