India’s Second Spaceport: A New Era of Space Exploration

India is set to enhance its space capabilities with the establishment of its second spaceport in Kulasekarapattinam, Tamil Nadu. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that the first launch of a small satellite launch vehicle (SSLV) will take place within 24 months.

What to Expect

ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan revealed that the SSLV will be capable of launching satellites weighing up to 500 kg. This new facility will include 35 state-of-the-art facilities, including a launchpad and mobile launch structure, enabling the launching of 24 satellites annually. The strategic location allows for direct launches over the Indian Ocean, saving fuel and time.

Chandrayaan-5 Mission Approved

In another exciting development, the Indian government has approved the Chandrayaan-5 mission. Set to feature a higher-capacity lander and a 350 kg rover, this mission will further India’s lunar exploration ambitions, aiming to land an Indian on the Moon by 2040.
