IAF Mirage-2000 Fighter Jet Crashes Near Gwalior

NEW DELHI: In a recent incident, a twin-seater Mirage-2000 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, both pilots managed to eject safely before the aircraft went down.

Details of the Incident

The Mirage-2000 took off from the Gwalior airbase but encountered a “system technical malfunction,” leading to the crash at approximately 2:40 PM. An IAF official confirmed that a court of inquiry has been initiated to investigate the exact cause of the accident.

About the Mirage-2000

The IAF currently operates around 50 Mirage-2000s, which have been part of the fleet since the mid-1980s. These French-origin fighters underwent a significant upgrade under a ₹17,547 crore project, which included the acquisition of 490 MICA missile systems worth ₹6,600 crore.

Notably, the Mirage-2000 jets were instrumental during the pre-dawn bombing of a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror facility in Balakot, Pakistan, on February 26, 2019, where they deployed the Israeli Spice-2000 precision-guided penetration bombs.

Conclusion

The incident highlights the importance of continuous assessment and maintenance of military aircraft to ensure the safety of pilots and the success of missions. For more updates on military news, stay tuned to Looffers.com, your go-to platform for the latest offers and information.
