Government Launches Revamped Jagriti App to Enhance Consumer Protection

New Delhi: The government recently launched the revamped Jagriti App, aiming to enhance consumer protection and promote digital access to justice. Alongside the newly introduced ‘Jago Grahak Jago App’ and ‘Jagriti Dashboard,’ these tools empower consumers to identify and address dark patterns on e-commerce platforms, ensuring fair practices and protection of consumer rights, as stated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to improve transparency and efficiency in the grievance redressal system, empowering consumers nationwide.

During the launch, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the importance of virtual hearings, providing consumers with easy access to justice.

The minister highlighted key achievements, including a refund of ₹1,454 crore from travel companies for flight cancellations during the Covid-19 lockdown, showcasing the effectiveness of the Consumer Protection Act.

The revamped National Consumer Helpline Portal, featuring AI-enabled NCH 2.0, introduces multilingual support and AI-powered chatbots, ensuring a more accessible and efficient platform for consumers. This collaboration with Gupshup enhances grievance resolution mechanisms.

In a significant move, the National Consumer Day also saw the launch of the Organic Food Testing Laboratory, aimed at improving food safety standards. Additionally, the SMART Standards initiative will roll out in 2025 to maintain high-quality standards across various industries.

On this occasion, 13 major e-commerce platforms, including Reliance Retail, Tata Sons, Zomato, Ola, and Swiggy, were recognized for signing a safety pledge, ensuring the protection of consumer rights on their platforms.
