Gold and Cash Seized from Kannada Actor Ranya Rao: A Shocking Smuggling Case
BENGALURU: In a stunning turn of events, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has uncovered a massive smuggling operation linked to Kannada actor Ranya Rao. Following her arrest for allegedly flying back from Dubai with 14.2 kg of gold bars concealed in a belt strapped to her body, authorities have seized additional gold worth Rs 2 crore and cash totalling Rs 2.7 crore from her posh Bengaluru apartment.
The Investigation Deepens
The DRI’s probe has now shifted focus to a jewelry boutique located in the city’s central business district. As the investigation unfolds, it has come to light that the ornaments found in Ranya’s residence were linked to a designer jewelry store on Lavelle Road, with preliminary investigations suggesting connections to a prominent politician. “We are exploring how the payments were routed,” stated a DRI source.
With the total value of seizures now amounting to Rs 17.3 crore, Ranya has been charged under the Customs Act, 1962. Her husband and other family members are expected to face questioning in the ongoing investigation.
Family Reactions
Ranya’s father, Ramachandra Rao, a senior IPS officer and DGP of the Karnataka Police Housing Corporation, expressed his devastation upon learning of his daughter’s alleged activities through the media. “I was unaware of any of these things. She lives separately; there has been no blemish on my career,” he remarked.
Government Response
State Home Minister G Parameshwara has refrained from commenting, stating, “Let DRI complete the probe and prepare a report.” As the investigation continues, many are left wondering how deeply this smuggling network runs and what implications it may have for those involved.
