Jammu & Kashmir news: Five soldiers have been declared dead after an army vehicle carrying 18 soldiers plunged into a 300-350 foot gorge in the Balnoi area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, prompting immediate rescue operations.

The injured personnel are currently receiving medical care, as reported by the Indian Army’s 16 Corps.

The accident took place in the Gharoa area while the Army vehicle was en route to Banoi. The mishap resulted in serious injuries to 8-9 jawans, according to officials.

The Indian Army’s 16 Corps expressed their condolences on X, stating, “All ranks of White Knight Corps extend their deepest condolences on the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in a vehicle accident during operational duty in the Poonch sector. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the injured personnel are receiving medical care.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating, “Deeply anguished by the terrible news of the martyrdom of five of our brave Indian Army soldiers in a vehicle tragedy in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Similar Accidents in Jammu and Kashmir

Unfortunately, this incident is not isolated. In November 2024, a similar accident occurred in Rajouri district, resulting in the death of one army personnel. Such accidents highlight the risks faced by our armed forces while performing their duties in challenging terrains.
